Photo taken through a window screen. |
I had just gone over the first print copy of The Bad Season on July 22, 2006. I walked over to the window and saw this moth on my outside air conditioner unit. It was the most bizarre thing I had seen in a long time. I retrieved my digital camera and snapped a picture through the glass and the window screen before going outside in a failed to attempt to capture the moth.
I contacted a moth expert. He told me what kind of moth it was, but added that he had never seen one with a cross on its back like this one. I call it the Jesus Moth, the Crusader Moth, or maybe the Infidel Moth. The syndicates wanted me to give it to them for free. They said they don't take pics from non-employees because "we would actually have to pay you for it." Hmm, what a novel concept, getting paid for something. I offered to swap for a syndicated story about my book. They refused. So I copyrighted the entire pic (the one below is a fragment from that pic) along with some of my other strange digital photos. Anyone can use the picture now if they want to because it's been online for awhile and easy enough to copy. I haven't seen another since that day.
I went outside and tried to catch the moth, but it got away. I did have it in my hands, but I was afraid to damage it so it slipped out. |
and nobody commented in almost two and a half years?... amazing this did not become a controversy (perhaps that in itself demonstrates the power of the media as well as anything)... since the moth did not perform any miracles and if mounted by accepted standards, the cross would be upside down, either there was an evolutionary error in the second coming, which would explain why he didn't stick around for an interview, or you were visited by the anti-christ... of course it could have simply been a moth too... i wonder what the markings would look like with the wings spread...
ReplyDeleteHard to get full pick. But I have a partial. With my finger under gently. It opened...looks like sunshine...the color of the sun...
DeleteI got a picture of one this weekend. First one I have ever seen
DeleteI saw one as well in my house this weekend... First time I ever saw one. I got a nice picture too
Deletetwo more things like that, and someone gets sainthood!
ReplyDeleteTo think I get excited about a Lady Bug landing on my shoulder.
ReplyDeleteThat one was pretty bizarre and I sure wish I could have caught the moth, but at least I did freeze that moment in time forever. Every moth I've ever seen before that one was always light brown without markings.
ReplyDeletewe see that moth all the time in PA. we call it the satanic moth.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I had never seen one before then or since.
ReplyDeleteit is a clymene moth. there are pictures of it open on the net
DeleteI have seen that moth 3 times in my life, including tonight, it seems it always comes at the most unusual times in my life when i need a lift, I always consider it to be a blessing. Tonight it was on my couch when my husband and I got home, as always I get so excited, but why I didnt snap a pic I will never no. When it hit me, hey take a pic and share this beautiful blessing with others I go to find the moth and it seems to have virtually disappeared. Breakes my heart at the thought that I missed my opportunity.

It came back, and right now is flying around my kitchen. When I got up this morning to make my husbands lunch, it came flying by my head and as soon as I seen it, I knew that it was my "blessing" moth even before it had a chance to land. This time I didnt let the opportunity pass me by and snapped several pictures of it, I think it is so beautiful. My husband and I are going through a very tough time right now, not with each other, but lets just say that we are trying to overcome something and when we have seen this moth twice over the past three days it has come at our lowest points when we needed a lift. Thank you Lord...

I seen this moth two days ago and its called the crusader moth and it comes when a prayer has been answered and will bless your house.
DeleteI live in West Virginia... not just in WV but at the main bottom of WV and I hadn't seen this moth up close and personal until like a week ago. My cousin, who is 11, told her dad about a moth with a cross on it's back... I didn't believe her... until it flew inside the house and landed on the floor. I looked in astonishment at the moth. Then I started seeing these moths EVERYWHERE I went.

And if you Believe , the visual pic changes , the Lord apeares as its close to its final days.. Its Awesome...!
DeleteI also have i pic of one I saw in Massachusetts
ReplyDeleteIf you are blessed it will land upside down, if the devil wants you, it will land right side up with the cross diverted. If He really wants you, it will follow you.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, we just saw this moth for the first time and I searched online to find out more about it. It found us in what we call the "magic house" -- a place we are renting for our business that has shown us many unusual blessings (sometimes creepy -- because things that we need or want just "appear" here -- literally). The lady that we just hired to work with us saw it and called me in to see it. She swears it's another blessing from the house.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, I tend to believe she's right.
Omg i just took a pic of one on my step
ReplyDeletethis is a clymene moth. there are pictures on the net of it with its wings open
ReplyDeletehad a jesus moth with me this AM.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw this moth to as the morning after my mom passed away. The second time was a year later on the night we moved into a new home. I know without a doubt.it is her.
ReplyDeleteI discovered my Haploa Clymene moth while camping in Vermont in July 2002. I have it registered with the US Geological Survey (USGS) as the first official sighting in Vermont. My spiritual connection is that my wife and I were both baptized the day I discovered the moth! I designed a medalion of my moth and have it copyrighted. I give the medalions out as a way of passing on the blessing. I did not fond that moth - the moth found me....
ReplyDeleteOnce I had to write a biological essay. And I'm not really good at it. But I have found the great help here: au.essay-writing-place.com
